WSOPE Europe 2008 In major competitions, such as the World Series of Poker Europe, players can sometimes find themselves seated at their table for up to 16 hours a day, meaning that their table becomes their home whilst they are still in the tournament.

Whilst the players have designated breaks throughout the day, some of them simply cannot wait and order food to their tables during play!

One of many players to do this at the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) was the very vocal American, Jamie Gold.

Gold, 38, known more for winning the 2006 World Series of Poker than his usual job as a television producer and talent agent, must have had hunger pangs towards the end of Day 3, as he requested some food sending to his table.

His order must have angered the Poker Gods as he almost immediately lost 44,000 of his 55,500 chips to Marcello Marigliano when his all-in with ace-four was called by Marigliano's pocket threes, who then flopped a set to cripple Gold's stack.

Never one to be shy of going all-in, Gold did not wait long to get his remaining 11,500 chips into the middle of the table.

Holding Kd Td, Gold would have been pleased to just win the blinds and antes but it was not to be as Marco Traniello made the call with a pair of black queens.

Gold requested a king from the dealer before starting to nibble on some sort of green bean from his plate. His demands fell on deaf ears as the flop came Th 8h 9d, followed by the ace of spades on the turn and the four of hearts on the river.

After shaking the hands of his tablemates and wishing them good luck in the process, Gold sauntered off to the cashier's cage to collect £27,150 prize money for his 35th place finish.

The excitement of cashing in the inaugural WSOPE must have been too much as Gold forgot to take his food with him, which actually led to a debate from the players at the table!

As the hungry and tired players eyed up the slowly cooling dish at the empty seat where Gold had previously sat, they discussed what the food actually was called!

The American-based tournament staff referred to it as a "shish kebab" whilst the British players at the tables opted to call it simply "a kebab."

For those of you who are actually interested, the official name of the food was a "peanut satay chicken stick", going to show that poker is not just about card, chips and bad beats, but also chickens on sticks!
