WSOPE: Bad Beats Pt.3 - Harman Cant Hold Up.

Date: 2008-08-01 10:41:50
WSOPE Europe 2008 After the day one action, the cards did not calm down for day 2A. Sat at the feature table was Gus Hansen and Jennifer Harman and they were involved in a very interesting hand early on.

Gus opens from early position with As Qs and is immediately called by the player to his left holding Ac Qd. Action is folded round to Jennifer who re-raised in the cutoff with Ah Ks. Against the two AQ's she was a 90% favorite to win the pot. Gus makes the call and the third player folds. Jennifer is now a 74% favorite to win the hand, which would be slightly more if Gus's hand was not suited.

The flop comes 2s Qh 2c giving Gus the lead and now a 86% favorite. He checks to Jennifer who bets 14,000 into a pot of 19,450. Gus smiles while muttering ‘How did I get myself into this?' before stating he cant fold and pushes his chips regrettably into the middle. Although only holding AK, Jennifer is priced in at this point getting over 4-1 on the call.

The turn brings the 2s meaning Jennifer has only a 6% chance to win the pot. However, there is a 1% chance the pot could be tied. Proving that its not over till its over, the 2h hits the river and the players chop the pot.

Jennifer would soon be on the wrong side of luck (again holding the best hand) when she faced of against Pam Brunson. Getting short stacked, Pam moved the rest of her chips into the middle with 4c 5c. Jennifer, two seats to her left, looked down at Ah Ac and made the obligatory re-raise.

Pam removed the famous Brunson card protector ‘Casper' from her cards and states she thinks she has two live ones, before seeing the bad news. Jennifer is a 79% favorite to in the hand (roughly 4-1) which is slightly more due to having the Ac. That lead is reduced to 68% however when the flop comes Qc 8s Kc. The Jc on the turn completes Pam's flush now making her a 84% favorite, but gives Jennifer a redraw to the nut flush and the Royal flush. The 4h is no help and Pam Brunson doubles up.
