Meet the WSOPE Final Table

Date: 2009-08-28 19:35:36
WSOPE Europe 2008 After four gruelling days of intense poker, 362 hopefuls have been whittled down to nine players who will make up the final table of the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe. Today's final table will be a worldly event in every sense of the name, with players hailing from the Canada, Russia, Sweden, USA and the UK.

Sure to be an exciting spectacle for the spectators and commentators, the final nine players are a mixture of well-known big-name professionals, up and coming players and poker unknowns.

Robin Keston finds himself in Seat 1 with a starting stack of 849,000. Keston will be playing at his second WSOP final table and will be making his ninth cash at the series. His biggest win to date was for his 12th place finish at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo for €101,100.

To his left, in Seat 2, is Daniel Negreanu. With four WSOP brace lets, 31 cashes and over $10,400,000 in tournament winnings, Negreanu is the most decorated player at the final table and with a stack of 1,002,000 chips, he will be one of the favourites to be crowned the King of the WSOPE.

Seat 3 is occupied by Chris Elliott of Alloa, Scotland. Little is currently known about Elliott apart from the fact he comes into the final table with the shortest stack of 281,000 chips and with blinds of 6,000/12,000 and a 2,000 running ante, Elliott only has enough chips to last seven orbits of the table so will be desperate to make a move early on.

It seems a Scandinavian player makes every final table at the 2008 WSOPE is no different. Swedish online pro, Bengt Sonnert is in Seat 4 but like Chris Elliott to his right, he is very short of chips with just 385,000 in front of him. Should he make it to short-handed play he could be a real threat as Roy ‘The Boy' Brindley said of him that "He has a brilliant strategy for these short handed games."

John Juanda has been drawn in Seat 5 and comes in as the chip leader with a stack of 1,349,000. Juanda is a high-stakes cash specialist but is no slouch at the tournament tables having won over $7,100,000 so far in his career and will be looking to add bracelet number four to his already fine collection.

History has been made by the player occupying Seat 6. Russian, Ivan Demidov, is a relative new-comer to the live poker circuit but already has one cash at the WSOP, an 11th place finish in the $1,000 No-limit Hold'em event for a cool $39,854. Amazingly, Demidov is part of the ‘November Nine' and will take his place at the final table of the 39th World Series of Poker Main Event, Las Vegas in November! Demidov becomes the first person in history to make the final table of the WSOPE and WSOP in the same year!

Seat 7 is filled by Finnish player, Toni Hitolen, another unknown at the table as he has no notable cashes before this event. He is guaranteed an £81,450 payday, the biggest of his career, but he will need to add to his stack early on as he only has 386,000 chips in his stack.

American professional, Scott Fischman takes Seat 8 and will come in with a stack of 732,000 chips. Fishcman has two WSOP bracelets to his name and will make his 11th cash at today's Main Event final table. Known as ‘Emptyseat88' in online circles, Fischman is capable of making crazy plays and has seen his stack yo-yo on his way to the final nine here at the WSOPE.

Last but not least, in Seat 9, is Stanislav Alekhin., the third unknown player to reach the final table. The Russian has the second largest stack, with 1,278,000 and only time will tell how he handles the pressure of final tabling such a prestigious event!

Play at the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe restarts at 13:00GMT and will continue until the King of the WSOPE is crowned. The best of luck to all involved.
