WSOPE Event 4 - £10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event - Day 2 Pt.1

Date: 2009-08-28 19:35:40
WSOPE Europe 2008 After many came (late), tried and failed during the first two days of the main event, everyone was sat early and eager to go on day two. With everyones eyes on the prize, there was plenty of action and dramatics inside the Empire.

Nenad Medic showed early in the day why he is one of the most respected players in the world. In presumably a raised pot, he check called a bet on a Jh 3h 8h flop and checked again on the 4h turn. His opponent bet again and Medic thought for a long time before eventually folding Kh Ks face up! His opponent commented that not many people can play like that before flashing the Ah.

Tom ‘durrrr' Dwan came into day two short stacked and was in no mood to mess around. In fact he was all in twice in the first 15 minutes if play. The second time he tangled with November Nine player Scott Montgomery when in a raised pot Dwan moved all in over the top of Montgomery after he bet the flop of Qs Kh 9s. He eventually made the call with Ac As and Dwan showed the 3s 4s for a flush draw, but no more spades came and the young internet phenomenon was gone.

Erik ‘Erik123' Sagstrom, often credited as the first ever internet poker superstar was in action early against new school internet whizzkid Isaac Haxton. After Haxton had opened the pot UTG, Sagstrom made the call and the players saw the flop. On a 10h 9h 7h flop, Sagstrom made a large check raise after Haxtons continuation bet, forcing him to fold.

Another November Nine player, Chino Rheem was involved in some big action. He faced off against Hendon Mobster Ross Boatman and was in great shape when Boatman moved all in on a flop of 5s 9c Ad and Rheem had him dominated with Ah 5h against Boatmans Ac 10c. The 4c on the turn gave extra outs and the Qc on the river left Rheem severely crippled. He would later make his way to the rail when on a board of Ad 7s Jd 3s he moved all in with Kh 9d and was called by Jc 9h. Failing to hit a king he now has the luxury of only waiting a couple more months before another shot at a bracelet.

Phil Hellmuth, as always, was in the thick of the action and the center of attention all day. After receiving taunts from all angles, mostly from Mike Matusow and Roland De Wolfe, he made a laydown he was not too happy with. On a board of 6s 6h 2s he faced a massive bet which equalled nearly his whole stack. After figuring his opponent might be mad enough to make the move with 88 or 77, he thought otherwise and showed the cameras ‘his hand' (99) before folding.

Mike Matusow, taking a break from hurling abuse at Hellmuth, coolered his opponent when holding the Ah 9d he won a huge pot on a board of Ad Jd 9h 9c 8c. His opponent held As Jc, much to Matusow's amazement because of it being a limped pot. In a raised pot he said he may of been able to lay the hand down.

Scotty Nguyen was eliminated after moving his short stack all in with AJ and getting called by the 63 of the big blind who hit a six. Next year, baby! Also eliminated was Doyle Bruson, who didn't look like he was enjoying himself all day. Brunson got his chips in the middle with A K, but was up against K K which held up.
