Winning A Bracelet

WSOPE Europe 2008

‘Winning a bracelet has always been a goal of a lot of poker players. These days it has become incredibly hard' - Five time bracelet winner Chris Ferguson.

‘Winning a bracelet means a lot. Thats a way of keeping score' Two time winner Jennifer Harman.

‘As a poker player thats everyones dream to win a bracelet' Two time winner Jeff Madsen.

‘Its about winning. Its all about these bracelets. Thats why I play the game' 11 time winner Phil Hellmuth.

‘The bracelet is really the thing that there after' ME bracelet winner Jamie Gold.

Even though the 2008 WSOP was heralded as the ‘year of the pro' there were still many players left without any gold on their arms, some for the first time. The 2008 WSOPE then will offer another chance to many who make the trip to Englands Capital.

After Erick Lindgren won his first bracelet this year the opus of best player never to win a bracelet falls straight onto Gus Hansens shoulders. He has many prestigious wins under his belt including the 2007 Aussie Millions, the first Poker Superstars, three WPT titles and the first European Poker Masters. This tally's up to $7.2m in tournament earnings. Yet when asked about the pressure of winning a bracelet, Hansen seems very undeterred.

‘It's always been hyped up, the bracelet thing. To me its like a poker tournament is a poker tournament. I'd rather win the WPT final event than the $10k mixed event at the WSOP, I think its a bigger accomplishment even though at the WSOP would of given me a bracelet. Nowadays picking up a lot of WSOP bracelets is very tough, Allen Cunningham and Phil Ivey have done well and I would like to catch up.'

Another great player never to win a bracelet is Phil Gordon. He has a WPT title under his belt as well as making the final table of the 2001 main event. He is also a popular author, coach and commentator. Yet with all the good theory he has to give, he is still stuck without the gold.

He still feels his chances are pretty good however. He estimates that if in a normal 1000 event the average player has a 1/1000 chance to win, yet he has a 1/250 chance to win. However he also agrees with Gus Hansen that the fields are getting larger and the players are getting better, so its getting much tougher to win.
