WSOPE Event 4 - £10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event - Day 1b

Date: 2009-08-28 19:35:54
WSOPE Europe 2008 David ‘Devilfish' Ulliot was in action early. On a board of 3s Jh 3d he called a bet from bracelet winner Jesper Houggard before making a raise when bet into again on the 7d river after they both checked the Kh turn. Houggard looked perplexed before deciphering the hand out loud, possibly trying to get a tell on the fish. Ulliot gave away nothing however, instead taunting his opponent by saying ‘If you call Im going to show you the nuts and if you fold im going to show you a bluff.' In the end Houggard made the call and saw the bad news, Ulliot had flopped quads.

Daniel Negreanu had a great day 1b. In an early pot Negreanu opened and was called in 3 spots. On a flop of Qh 10d 4c Negreanu made a continuation bet and was promptly raised. After singing along to his ipod, Negreanu 3-bet and got a fold, saying he had top tair top kicker and overplayed it ‘like a European.' He would later take the chip lead when on a flop of 9h 8d 6d Negreanu was raised after he made a bet. He then re-raised enough to put his opponent all in and when his opponent folded he was nice enough to show 66 for a set.

Jeff ‘ActionJeff' Garza, the player who was slowrolled by Ram Vaswani last year made what will probably be the call of the tournament during the day. On a flop of Ac 10s 3s Jeff bet and was called. The river came the 2d and both players checked, before the river came the 10d. His opponent made a large bet and Garza made the call, showing Qh Jc! Everyone watching was shocked. Something to note though is that reports show his opponent mucked before Garza showed the Q high, so its possible he threw away the best hand without realising and was too embarrassed to say.

Big names eliminated on day 1B were:

Allen Cunningham
Jeff Madsen
Sorel Mizzi
Carlos Mortensen
Antonio Esfandiari
John Phan
Gus Hansen
Annette Obrestad

Players resume for day two with Daniel Negreanu leading the field.
